Defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne claimed the first pole position of the 2013 MCE British Superbike Championship season after a hectic final session in the opening Datatag Extreme Qualifying ahead of rivals at his home circuit.

The top ten were pushing to claim the pole position but a typically calm and collected Byrne fired the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki to the top of the times ahead of Alex Lowes on the leading Samsung Honda with team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari in seventh.


Milwaukee Yamaha returned to the front row with James Ellison whilst BMW returned to the front row in the hands of Jon Kirkham on the Buildbase BMW. The second Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki of Keith Farmer heads row two from Josh Brookes on the first Tyco Suzuki.

James Westmoreland and Dan Linfoot completed the top ten for the Buildbase BMW and Lloyds British GBmoto Honda teams respectively.
