Opening roads led to Senior cancellation, says clerk of course
Having to open the roads at 5pm for an hour last Friday to allow people to get home, played a major part in the decision to cancel the Manx Grand Prix Senior race.
That's the view of Clerk of the Course Phil Taubman.
The race day was troubled by changeable weather but conditions improved late afternoon.
Mr Taubman says the Senior could have been run in full from 4pm had they not had a strict roads opening order in place for the first time:
The order to open the roads between 5pm and 6pm on work days came in this year after some problems with congestion in and around the Douglas area over recent years.
The political representative at the Department of Economic Development with responsibility for motorsport events is Laurence Skelly.
He says it's important to find a balance between the needs of everyone and the issue will be discussed soon when the event debrief takes place.
