Milwaukee Yamaha's Josh Brookes topped a frantic morning warm up session at Cadwell Park as the position at the top of the times changed eight times ahead of the opening MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship race of the day in Lincolnshire.
Brookes started the session strongly by setting the initial pace but then it became a three-way scrap for the top of the timesheets with title rivals Ryuichi Kiyonari and Shane 'Shakey' Byrne. The trio were constantly swapping positions for the top three places, but the Australian had the edge at the chequered flag as he prepares to fight from his tenth place grid position in race one this afternoon.
Kiyonari had taken his turn at the top of the times but he was pushed back to second by Brookes with his final lap whilst Byrne held fourth for the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team. Chris Walker meanwhile had leapt to fourth on the lone Lloyds British GBmoto Racing Kawasaki as he pushed an improving Peter Hickman back to fifth in the closing stages.
Josh Waters' last lap put him sixth fastest for Tyco Suzuki ahead of front row starter Tommy Bridewell on the second of the Milwaukee Yamahas. Dan Linfoot had climbed as high as fourth in the early part of the session but he ended eighth fastest for the Quattro Plant Kawasaki team with Jon Kirkham and Ben Wilson completing the top ten.
