Re: THOUSANDS turn up
Yesterday's service did Steven proud. There are accounts of it on the BBC website and in various newspapers.
His old friend Alan Duffus paid an uncharacteristically (for AWD) serious tribute to Steven as a hero..of motorcycling and as a family man. Jim Davidson from The Purple Helmets followed this with a hilarious account of wheeybin racing and an embarrassing encounter at Windy Corner. The 2 combined to give a very good picture of the lovely, complicated, complete Steven.
There were huge crowds of people and bikes all around Hawick, and locals lined the roads all the way to the cemetery.
Many racing friends, among them Michael Rutter, Bill and Ian Simpson, Ian Duffus, JR, Ian Lougher, Jim Moodie were there. David Cretney, Ray Cowles, so many people from past and present it is impossible to list them all.
Young Aaron and Connor were there to say goodbye to their beloved Daddy, and were a credit to Kelly and Steven.
My thoughts are with Margaret and George, Kelly and the boys, and close friends like the Olivers for whom this was a great support, but they will still miss him terribly.
It was a very emotional day, but a very appropriate tribute to a lovely man who will be much missed but never forgotten.
