BRITISH SUPERSPORT LEADER LUKE STAPLEFORD JOINS JG SPEEDFIT FOR FINAL 2 ROUNDS
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki team are delighted to welcome current Motorpoint British Supersport leader Luke Stapleford into the fold for the final two rounds of the 2015 MCE British Superbike Championship.
Following discussions after Assen with Profile Racing, the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team is excited to be welcoming young Luke Stapleford into the squad for the final two races of the season. It has been a fantastic season for Luke, having taken eleven wins in the ultra-competitive Motorpoint British Supersport Championship. The 24 year old rider needs just three points from Silverstone to secure the 2015 title, and this remains the priority for both the JG Speedfit team and Profile Racing.
As one of the brightest young talents in Britain, the move will allow Luke to gain invaluable experience on a Superbike as he looks to make a decision on his 2016 plans. With no prior experience in the BSB class, there is no pressure on Luke to perform and the entire team are looking forward to helping him achieve his best.
Enthusiastic to be joining the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team for the final two rounds, Luke Stapleford said
“I’m so excited for Silverstone, it’s incredible to be joining a high profile team like JG Speedfit Kawasaki and I want to thank Mark and everyone for this opportunity. Obviously our main goal is to wrap up the Supersport title at Silverstone, but we’ve not changed the bike for the past few rounds as it’s so good, so our plan is to not do too many laps before the race in order to concentrate on the Superbike.
I’m under no illusions as to how big of a challenge it will be given the strength and depth of the British Superbike grid, but there’s no pressure on me from the team or anyone to perform, so we can use Silverstone and Brands as almost a test to see where we stack up and help decide what my moves are next year. I’ve ridden a 1000cc bike a few times before, so hopefully the Superbike won’t be a massive shock – I just can’t wait to get going now!”
GBmoto Team Principal Mark Smith-Halvorsen said,
“Following a change to our rider line up at Assen, we are really happy to welcome Luke Stapleford into the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team for the final two rounds of the series. Luke is very close to securing a fantastic 2015 Supersport Championship at Silverstone and we will be working closely with Profile Racing, to ensure that we combine and assist his work with us, to prioritise that as early as possible. He is committed to finishing his year on their Triumph 675 and so will face a tough schedule throughout both race weekends!
For Luke, it is the chance to try Superbike racing in earnest and to work with some experienced technical people, as he makes an assessment about his racing future and his plans for 2016. We feel really confident that the package we have will allow him to get a top level insight into the premier class, and the entire team is looking forward to working with such a talented and accomplished young rider. There will be no preconceived ideas or pressure to perform, however his inclusion in our squad will help to bolster the fresh confidence we have, as we attempt to battle our way back to the top of the BSB table before the final flag drops this year.”
