TT2016 Supersport Rules Shake-Up

Isle of Man TT bosses have re-written the Supersport rule book for the 2016 event in order to bring them into line with British and World Supersport regulations.

As middleweight competition moves closer to Superstock on the world stage, the regulations for the world’s most famous bike race are right in step with only a minimum amount of engine tuning allowed and a clampdown on electronics as only kit ECUs or the control Motec system as used in BSS will pass scruitineering.

And it isn’t only the Superport class that has come under the magnifying glass as the Sidecar regulations have also been given a makeover with engines limited to 600cc four or 675cc triples.

However, chairmen are allowed to change their ECU and tune engines except for altering the bore and stroke.

“We have made some big changes in Supersport and in Sidecar where we are trying to drive some progression into the class,” TT chief Paul Phillips told bikesportnews.com. “Outside of the technical regulations, we have tried to create a manual which explains how you come and ride at the TT from start to finish, and hopefully tries to set out a culture of behaviour and professionalism we would like competitors to aspire to.”
