Following an incident at Billown Dip during the 850cc Classic Practice on Friday evening, involving two competitors and two course marshals, the Southern 100 MCRC, organisers of the Blackford’s Pre-TT Classic Road Races, are able to issue the following details:

Unfortunately, local rider Dean Martin from Santon, died as a result of his injuries, following an incident at Billown Dip during the 850cc Classic Practice on Friday evening.

Dean Martin, 58, a long time competitor on the Billown Course on classic and modern machines leaves a partner Hilary.

The other rider involved, Jamie O’Brien from Liverpool is described as serious but stable.

One course marshal suffered head injuries - both he and Jamie O’Brien have been flown to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool for further treatment.

The second course marshal, a retired competitor, has ankle and shoulder injuries, but is expected to be discharged from Nobles Hospital later today.
