Southern 100 Racing are saddened to learn of sudden passing of Dick Cassidy on Sunday 4th November 2018.

Dick joined the team of Travelling Marshals on the Billown Course for the Pre-TT, Post TT and Southern 100 Races in 1999, taking over as Chief Travelling Marshal in 2004, after the then ‘chief’ Des Evans stood down.

Dick continued in this role until the conclusion of the 2012 Road Racing Season.

Prior to taking up official duties at the ‘friendly races’, as a 22-year-old in 1975 Dick made his racing debut at the Southern 100 on an Aermacchi picking up an unwanted DNF. Returning in 1976, 1977 and 1978, riding Yamaha machinery, his best result was a 10th place in the 250cc race in 1977.

On the Snaefell Mountain Course the then Douglas Electrician made his debut in the Junior Manx Grand Prix finishing in 38th position.

His second attempt in 1977 saw him finish eighth in the Lightweight Manx.

The following year with a double entry the Junior resulted in his first Mountain Course DNF, finally raking 48th in the Lightweight race after experiencing machine problems.

He also took on Travelling Marshal duties for the TT and Manx Grand Prix.

Dick Cassidy was a true friend to everyone during his time racing and officiating on the ‘Southside’ course and was a regular face at the races after his ‘retirement’ including this year.

He will be missed by all involved with the Southern 100, as Southern 100 Racing extend their condolences to Dicks family and friends at this sad time.
