JAMIE COWARD CONFIRMS CLASSIC TT RACES CAMPAIGN

Five-time podium finisher Jamie Coward is set for an extremely busy campaign at this year’s Classic TT Races, presented by Bennetts, with the Hebden Bridge rider set to contest all four solo races.

Having already announced his ride with Binch Racing in the Lightweight Classic TT, the 28-year old will also ride a 350cc Craven Honda and 500cc Craven Manx Norton for Ted Woof Racing in the Locate.im Junior Classic TT and Bennetts Senior Classic TT races which take place on the UK Bank Holiday weekend.

In addition, he’ll be on board a 750cc ZXR Kawasaki for Kraus/PreZ Racing in the four-lap RST Superbike race and is sure to be challenging for the race wins in all four of this year’s races.

Although it is a first time appearance in the Lightweight Classic TT race, Coward is no stranger to the other three races having contested them every year since 2013 and having already taken five podium finishes, three in the Senior class and two in the Junior, he’s well placed to increase that tally.

Coward took his first podium in the inaugural year of the Classic TT in 2013 when he placed third in the Senior race behind Olie Linsdell and the late William Dunlop and since then he’s been an ever-present at the top end of the leaderboard.

Indeed, further podiums in the Senior class have come in the last two years on the Ted Woof Craven Manx Norton with second to Josh Brookes in 2017 and the same result again twelve months ago, once more behind the Paton but this time with John McGuinness on board.

Runner-up in this year’s Bennetts Lightweight TT race by just 1.3s to Michael Dunlop, Coward has been the man to push the dominant Winfield Paton the most and in chasing Brookes two years ago, he not only became the quickest rider to lap the Mountain Course on a British single cylinder machine but also the first to lap at more than 110mph with his best lap currently standing at a superb 110.057mph.

He’s also come close to winning the Junior race on more than one occasion and having finished second for the last two years as well, lapping at close to 104mph on the Honda he’ll be desperate to go one better this time and finally stand on the top step.

Meanwhile, it will be his second year on the Kraus Racing 750cc Kawasaki after five previous seasons on a similar Mistral Racing machine. Although he’s yet to finish in the top three in the Superbike Classic TT race, his best finish of fifth came just last year whilst a best lap of 123.522mph more than proves his credentials and ensures he’ll be amongst the race favourites in all four races.

Arguably one of the most under-rated riders currently competing on the Mountain Course, Coward has been enjoying an excellent year so far and as well as his second place in the aforementioned Lightweight TT race, he also finished in the top ten in all of the other five solo races on the PreZ Racing machines.

Those results saw him deservedly win the 2019 TT Privateer’s Championship and the Dunlop Senior TT saw him break the 130mph barrier for the first time, which, in the process, made him the fastest rider ever around the 37.73-mile circuit on a Yamaha machine.
