MGP TALKS THIS WEEK?
MGP TALKS THIS WEEK?
The Council of Ministers could discuss this week whether the Manx Grand Prix should go ahead.
It is believed the issue is likely to be on the agenda for this Thursday’s (June 28) regular meeting as public pressure for a decision to be made continues to grow.
Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister Alex Downie believes the situation is similar to that of the TT decision as there have still been around 30 to 35 cases of foot-and-mouth a week in the UK recently.
But Tourism and Leisure Minister David Cretney will be fighting for the August event to go ahead, with certain restrictions in place, as the tourism industry suffered a huge blow when the TT was cancelled back in April.
Douglas East MHK Brenda Cannell has already said she wants to see further compensation packages for the industry if the MGP is also scrapped.
