Re: Nice Ebay item
That looks like a finishers award.
The modern ones are most definatly not sterling silver.
Mine are worthless to most but priceless to me.
But I'd swap them all for a rep this year

Re: Nice Ebay item
Just for the record:
Clive J Tompsett's record at the Manx is as follows:
1936 Junior retired Norton.
1937 Lightweight 12th Sunbeam
1938 Lightweight 11th Exelcior
1946 Junior 19th Norton
1946 Senior retired Norton
(stats from Bill Snelling's book)
Like so many other riders his full potential could not be realised due to WW2.
In the race he received that medal, first place was won by Denis Parkinson
who also raced in 1946 coming 3rd in the Junior.
In the 1938 race Clive came in 11th out of 14 finishers and according to the
race time on the medal he was 23min 1sec behind winner.
There were large gaps in that race. First to second was 2min 22 sec and
second to third was 5 min 21 sec.
The name Tompsett appears at the TT as well but I don't know if there is any
connection.
Jim Tompsett (Australia) 1958 Junior 43rd on AJS and 1958 Senior 45th on AJS.
John Tompsett 1964 50ccTT 12th on a Honda.
(another website has these two as being the one person?)
I often wonder how such a prized possession comes to be sold for money.

Stephen those silver medals are what we got in the sixties if you were not on for a rep.

Patience you will crack it for a rep yet, hopefully a silver, luck changes, won nothing to start, then only won silvers in the early days, the bronzes come later when you get older and wiser.
