Statement from North Monaghan MCC 14/12/06

The North Monaghan Motorcycle Club regret to announce that they have taken the
decision not to run their race in 2007.

This will no doubt come as a surprise to many, following a successful race meeting this year.

Various problems faced the club, and despite having bounced back from a couple of cancellations in previous years, It was decided at a recent meeting, not to go ahead with plans for a race meeting in 07.

It was a hard decision for the club to take and it is sorry that it had
to do so.

However,

The club will be continuing its participation in the sport during the forthcoming
season.and Indeed, they will be looking for a new circuit for the 2008
season.

The 1st North Monaghan motor cycle race took place in 1996, where Joey Dunlop and Dave Leach were amongst the entries and Derek Young became Man of the meeting

In Later years , Simon Beck , James Crompton, Ian Lougher,Jason Griffiths etc, competed at Monaghan

Tradgedy struck in 2000, when both Gary Dynes and Andrew McLean both lost their lives in a first lap crash during the 250 race.

Ryan Farquhar became the first rider to lap the circuit at over 100mph, and Martin Finnegan scored his first national road race win at the Glaslough circuit
