STEAM RACKET STINKS!
I have started a new thread for this topic so that
we can pool our anger.

I too have just had the dreaded "revised sailing" letter.
Remember that I, like Michael, booked in June 2005.
Instead of going at 1eleven1am on saturday, I am now booked on
the 22:30, due in at 1am (STEAM RACKET FOR 3AM!)
So, I have virtually lost a day, missing the first practice session
and leaving us cream crackered for the Billown races.
Am I angry.... nooooo.
I am incandescent!!
I tried to ring the boooking line and gave up. Probably a waste
of time anyway!!
Pamela saw who angry I was becoming and took the phone form me.
She phoned David Cretneys office and Earnshaws.
In both cases speaking to a PA and asking for a call back.
Wont hold my breath!!
Then P phoned a UK government department who showed interest.
They said that the RACKETC terms and conditions allow them to do
as they please.
BUT, this department WERE interested in finding out about the
monopoly situation and whether or not there is abuse going on.

So, I dont know if we can do anything, but I intend to try.

Any suggestions?

5,000 people out of 41,000 got these letters.
Why me and Ian with 100 years TT visits between us?

What is the real truth behind it?
The letter says that its to do with "harbour restrictions"

MV,
Why dont you try & get in touch with one of the new MHK,s
Geoff Corkish
As he was at the racket for years, you might get some sense out of him, maybe?

Good luck

Mike

I would like t see that too, and more.
Have already approached a UK government department who showed more than a passing interest.

If we look back 20 or 30 years there were 30-40 thousand plus going over to the island, with bikes biger and heavier than today, the ships were old tubs like the Lady and we didnt have internet booking, mobile phones and compurters like today.

And you could roll up and go on the day.

What is going on.....

It really does Stink...

There is something that is very unfortunate about all of this.

If the Steam Racket Company was actually owned by share holders who managed to put a face and their own cash into a company like this then you may have a chance of getting your points across and the company might actually care. Unfortunately the company that owns SPC is a financial investment company, much on the same lines as your pension funds, and we all know where they went. The main idea of their investments is to make a profit for a portfolio. This portfolio can be then invested in much in the same way as unit trusts. So they are only interested in how much they can make for the lowest out lay so their portfolio increases. Please don't for one minuite think that they are going to do anything as they are not in the business of client care as many public service companies are, they are only interested in return.

I would dare to suggest that they already knew that the boat was smaller as this would reduce outlay and they already had enough people pre booked to make the profit margins greater so they don't care. This is a clear case of them not doing things fast enough or seeing far enough ahead and then having to juggle things around to make things fit.

You will not get any joy from the MHK's as they will just go 'yes yes we understand' and then wait for all of this to just go away. Just don't let it. Then when the adverts for you all to book early for next years TT start appearing......... make your point.

I think the key here is for anything to be done it needs to be done on the UK side. MV if you let everyone know which gov department you contacted I would suggest this route. Or try to contact the media in the UK and show how much of a monopoly there is and at the time the IOM Government wants nothing but good press, this is an ideal opportunity to make your feelings known.

I am ashamed to be Manx, and can I apologise to everyone who has been affected by this.
When people say one thing and mean another its called politics, when organisers say one thing and mean another its called a mistake, when the ACU say one thing and mean another its called information.
