Liverpool Big Dig
Any Liverpudlians care to give some advice for TT bound riders? I have heard that the Big Dig re-arrangements have meant that when you approach the Liver Building area from the Kingsway Tunnel you are not now allowed to turn right at the start of the Strand into the ferry terminal area, as you used to be able to do. What is the best way now?

My advice is to arrive in plenty of time as these roadworks alter day to day or visit radiomerseyside web site, Alf who is a regular on this site is probably the one to ask as i think he travels through the capital of culture more than i do, me i use my bus pass to attend the capital of football and they play in blue and whitesmiliesmiliesmiliesmilie

RE: Liverpool Big Dig
I was going to wait until the weekend to post this info. but seeing as there are a number of requets, here goes;

Liverpool City Centre is still experiencing difficulties with roadworks and regeneration projects which are effcting highways etc.

So, if travelling from the South I suggest;

M6 N leave at J20A and join M56 Chester, N Wales

M56 W leave at J15 and join M53 Birkenhead, Liverpool

At the end of the M53 take the Kingsway (Wallasey) Tunnel to Liverpool, bikes free, cars £1.40.

At the tunnel exit aim for City Centre, join dual carriageway Scotland Road A 59. First major junction turn right onto Leeds Street A5053. Follow sign posts to Pier Head and IOM Ferries. At Liver Buildings, TURN RIGHT to IOMSPC terminal.

If you use the Birkenhead tunnel and Dale St you cannott make the right turn from Water St across the Strand anymore, sorry sticky. Instead of the left hairpin turn, go left out the tunnel onto A59 Byrom Street and then Left at Leeds Street A5053 and then as per above.

Hi Alf,

I presume The Strand is the dual track down near the waterfront? Last year instead of going straight across and turning right then left into the ferry terminal, I went left at the dual track for about 200 yards and took a hairpin right back the way I came. Hopefully that's still possible? That route is a sort of family tradition - it's the way we always came since 1964!

Not before the 25th May you can't I'm afraidSad The U turn or Right turn at that junction (Mann Island) is likely to still be prohibited until the 25th, sorry.

Yes pykey, I'm there far too often these days. They've bitten off more than they can chew I reckon. The Grand Opening is now September. Good news for all MGP travellers Yahoo not so good for TT travellers though.

Head North on the A59 (Scotland Rd) toward Walton/Aintree as far as M58 then M6 N, easy. Reverse for return journey, avoid Eastern route via Edge lane and M62. alf

pykey, No they're two different sites, roadracingsupporters.com crashed on Thursday night, we're trying to get it back but no luck so far. I'm sure we will though. Don't forget live NW 200 coverage on BBC NI next Saturday here http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/nw200/. alf
