25 years this June since that magic day when Mike the Bike came back and won...is anybody running any special events?

2003 is the anniversary of a number of TT related events--Geoff Duke is 80 and the Scuderia Duke brought back the Gileras..........

There are more...Name them !!!!

Its 25 years in August that we lost the great JG Williams the 12th of August 1978 to be exact.

1973 ?
1983 ?

So what special happened THESE years at the TT then ????

What about an 80th anniversary - it was in 1923 that Freddie Dixon won the inaugral Sidecar TT with the banking Douglas. If things work out, we will the machine back on the Island for this years TT. The Tom Sheard Douggie which won the Senior of the same year is still resident on the Island, but is a non-runner at the moment.

Yes...This is what we should be doing, commemorating what MADE the TT----I do not think that in 80 years time we will be remembering what is happening now, I'm afraid !

I love the TT and the Island but it must be an event which continues to make its own history...

What can be done to make it an on-going memory ??

Each year we should look at the way it panned out and build on it !!

Joey is a hard act to follow but so were all those riders of yesteryear...

I am sorry Ian but I disagree that the TT isn't setting landmarks and creating historic and memorable moments.Last year David Jefferies set a new outright lap record of 17 minutes 47 seconds, averaging 127.29mph, an outstanding achievement.
Time will tell if you are right, but if you could go back to 1923 I doubt if they thought then, that they were creating historic landmarks.

I would be the VERY last person to take any accolade from Davids wonderful showing at the last few TTs-----A lap record and multiwins in a very short period---
However in the "old days" it took the "names" years to accumulate the total wins now assigned to David--He is a superb rider, no question, but I do wonder what else we will remember of 2002....

My point is that the TT is a road race for specialists in road racing, not just an event for once a yearers (Though I suppose it has been that for a while now!)

You lot know how much I favour the TT....I spend money there for heavens sake,but I feel it is going off on a tangent a bit with one or two aspects not completely acceptable to an old fogey TTFAN like me.....Maybe I should, after attending each year since 1947, give it all up and live on me memories.................However I ain't ready to do that yet..
