Help please to identify a rider
I have found a box of items in my "vast collection" dating from 1949, among the items is an arm band with no.21 on it. The arm band lettering is in red so I have to assume that no.21 was a rider in that years Senior Race.

Can anyone help me to idenify the rider please ?

Could it be one of the Brett brothers ?

The mystery solved!
The rider was Charlie Brett, brother of better-known Jack.

He retired on the fifth lap of the Senior on his 350 Velocette. He had finished 23rd in the Junior on the same machine.

Well done Bill - happy to finish second!

Sorry Cargo, but I've only just logged in - I've been working on Tandragee paperwork all day, and you know what that means . . . . . .

Ian - surely you have all your programmes in your archives???

Oh Larry, you will surprised that my present "Vast collection" started only after meeting the great Geoff Duke in 1950 and I then began my idolising phase and also began to be a hoarder of all things TT.

My Dad was pit attendant for the Bretts in 1949 so I wanted it confirmed that this armband was related to Charlie. The armband is in red lettering so to me that signifies the Senior.

However I am embarrassed to tell you that my 1949 year collection is not as big as my 1950 year collection, for instance I do not even have a programme from 1949 ! (anybody got one please ?)

The loft collection has grown in a big way since then !!

In 1949, Ian, there was a separate programme for each race day, and indeed this system, which had operated since at least the 1920s, continued until 1952 which was the first year of a single programme for the entire event.

I have, for 1949, Monday's programme (Junior) and Friday's (Lightweight & Senior) but I'm missing Wednesday's (Clubmans).

Sadly, I have only one of each!
