RE: Meetings Clash ~ TT & Moto GP
Do you realy think it will make that much difference to TT numbers?
I was marshaling at the MotoGP last weekend and I would say without doubt 95% of people there were not the TT type.
The main thing that everyone comments on why the WILL NOT go to the TT is the cost of the ferry.
But having said that if you turned up on Sunday at Donington for the GP it was £65 to get in,£6 for a programme,£4.50 for a donkey burger, the toilets were free but my god they were TERRIBLE.
So I think if people realy wanted to get to the TT they could miss out a couple of BSB + MotoGP they could afford to go.

RE: Meetings Clash ~ TT & Moto GP
Hmm, on one hand this sounds bad... and on the other, I see opportunity..!! One of the "issues" to me, is the lack of information regarding the TT (and MGP) is known over here in the states. I wonder if the IOM Tourism board has a good method of getting the word out.. not just to the states, but a lot of other countries as well..? Do they have a good connection with the travel agencies around the world..? Yes I agree the Ferry boat is price a bit high... but if you spread out that cost over the Fortnight, it is not that big an issue. And if the Tourism board could come up with some speciffic packages that include the Ferry boat, then it would be seemless.
I also think that a lot of people just do not know how "Magical" the IOM is.. or about the other attractions (golf, tennis, steam train, pubs, the Promenade, etc)..
I guess is what I am asking... is there an IOM brouchure that is sent out to different Travel agencies and travel boards..?? Are there articles about traveling to the IOM is all the bike trade magazines (around the world)..? There are only a few bike racing organizations in the states... contact all of them as well..?
Just me thinking out loud.... but... perhaps getting an ambassador to the IOM TT and MGP racing in as many countries as possible to spread the word..??
ALl I know, is that once a "newbie" has gone, they always talk about going back... it is NOT just me..!!!
Cheers..!!!!

The TT coverage is being shown on Verizon FIOS HD in one hour programs over several weeks, at least on the East Coast. It's the same as that which was broadcast during the TT.

RE: Meetings Clash ~ TT & Moto GP
Well, sadly, Don is correct... there are about 100,000 "bikers" outside, many have not idea there is racing going on inside... and a few days before the "Pros" show up, there are a whole series of races all week, of which I have had the pleasre of (my bike) racing in the Vintage AHRMA events. And the last few years, I put pals from England on my bike as I think it nice to give someone from there an inexpensive chance to say they raced at Daytona..! One of the issues around Daytona is they have a lot of the activities and Vendor booths outside the track (no entry fee), so there is no incentive to pay to get in to the track.
OK, so in the end, it is all about how good the promotors are at getting people TO the races. The IOM is FREE once you get there with more racing and other activities than one can possibly take in..!!
3 weeks until first MGP practice, and my bike is still not ready... oh my......!!
Cheers..!!
