ISLE OF MAN GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT APPOINTS
THE SPORTS CONSULTANCY TO CONDUCT TT WORLD SERIES FEASIBILITY STUDY

The Sports Consultancy has been appointed by the Department of Economic Development to conduct a feasibility study into the formation of an Isle of Man TT World Series.

The London based organisation is expert in the commercial development of major sports events and the provision of consultancy to government clients working with major sports events ranging from the Olympic Games and Ryder Cup to Formula One.

The Isle of Man TT, widely regarded as the world's most famous motorcycle race, celebrated its centenary in 2007 and has enjoyed remarkable growth in the last 5 years in terms of both visitor numbers and increased revenues from commercial sponsors. Based on this success and the increasing interest in the Isle of Man TT Races in international markets, as well as a growing number of leading international broadcasters who now feature the event, the Department has commissioned The Sports Consultancy to conduct a detailed feasibility study into the creation of a world series of affiliated TT Races events.

The Sports Consultancy won a competitive tender for the project that the agency will deliver with the support of partner agency Capita Symonds, who will work on the technical aspect of the study.

The work will start in November 2011 and is to be completed by the end of March with an announcement on the study due at the 2012 TT Races.

Commenting on the win, Angus Buchanan co-founding Director of the agency said;

"We are absolutely delighted to win this pitch and really excited to be working on a project relating to this amazing event. The study will combine our extensive experience of creating and commercialising sports events with our rapidly growing expertise in host city consultancy".

Mr Geoff Corkish, MBE, MHK, Member with designated responsibility for Tourism and Motorsport commented:

“We are keen to capitalize on the growing worldwide interest in the Isle of Man TT Races, not only to explore potential new revenue streams but also as a platform for the Isle of Man to promote itself and its associated businesses and services. The Sports Consultancy are one of the UK’s leading and most successful consultancies at establishing international sports properties and we are confident that if the event is possible they will be able to establish a framework to move it forward.”

Was this not the company, or it's parent company at least, involved in the suspected money for peerages scandal back in 2006 or so.

Was it not also proposed that they were supposed to have "lent" £1 million or so to the then in power Labour Party, for what was termed "suspicious" awards of Government contracts ?

I'm sure that their then M.D. had to resign over these matters ?

Not exactly a great advert for a company who is "moving" into Isle of Man Department of Economic Development matters on a consultancy basis for expansion of the proposed TT "series".

Reported on Manx Radio

Corkish cagey over consultancy costs

A political member of the Department of Economic Development says he's not sure how much off-Island consultants will cost, as they consider the TT brand.

Experts at the Sports Consultancy have been brought in to see whether a world series of TT races would be viable.

In the past, the United Kingdom company has been involved with the Olympics, golf's Ryder Cup and Formula One racing.

Geoff Corkish, who has political responsibility for the TT, says they will cost money, but could also bring in cash at a time when budgets are tight.
