Old Man,EH, my thoughts too. Milking the boys that put on the show on. Unfortunately ,cost is the problem for both riders and spectators,no matter how many side shows or attractions they put on,it all comes down to cost .

Where does the entry fee go ??????

I think it is now time to be presented with a breakdown of how this fee helps the cost of the races.

It would help us to understand how someone comes up with this figure and charges it.....

Yes FCM I read you loud and clear,BUT ,what does it cost to get to mallory and live for the weekend and fuel the bike etc,a lump less than popping to the Island for two plus weeks, unless you,re coming from the Island to race at Mallory of course. The lads, and ladies, need to find five or six times the cost of Mallory to live the dream of the Mountain. The club races don,t totally need spectator money, it,s just about covered with entries, but the Island looks to make money from fans, without a full grid the fans will reduce so will the income. It,s a difficult choice to make, but i feel the higher costs will turn off some of the classis boys who might just say enoughs enough, and the classics are the highlight for possibly most of the Manx fans.Well, that,s my thinking anyway.

I always thought the entry fee money went towards the cost of the insurance for the event, and the riders do get alot of racing miles for their money.
Possibly if the MGP does become more commercialised, maybe some of that money could be used to 'subsidise' the cost of the entry fee.

I may be wrong but I think the IOM Government withdrew any subsidy on the insurance for the MGP. How much was the TT entries, saying this TT riders get their money back
In expenses

Racing at the MGP for most is a hobby, just like skiing and that too is expensive and has more fatalities per year

As a spectator, I am embarrassed to think of the wonderful racing by courageous riders that I have enjoyed free of charge. There should be a way that we can (voluntarily) contribute to the expenses of the privateers (No offence intended to riders who are already supported by sponsors)

If you travel over to the MGP to spectate you do in a way contribute to the expenses of privateers. Every time you spend money in the IOM, a proportion of that money will be end up as tax that eventually goes towards the IOM Gov running costs of the MGP. You can always help sponsor a rider, most riders are most grateful for any sponsorship ,however big or small the amount is.

I help to sponsor (in a small way) Team Oscar and the knowledge that even a little money goes to help them live their dream is a great feeling. Even £25 can be used by any of the privateers and the more £25s they receive the better off those privateers will be. Just think if every spectator at the TT or MGP sent £10 to a privateer of their choice we all (spectators and racers) would benefit

RE: MGP 2012 entry fees up now £333 per race
Was speaking to a TT rider at a MGP awards night a few years ago. He couldn't believe we paid for our entries, let alone how much, as the guys at the TT get (he said) free entries and start money. Whether or not that's entirely true the costs of competing at the MGP are massive and not just for the entries. The ferry tickets, wear and tear on the bikes, fuel, tyres etc not to mention the pointless mountain course licence leave little change out of £2000 for the event even without repairs. Sure it's a great event but it uses all your holiday, forces you to arrange your racing schedule around it and blows a big hole in your wallet. I've retired now and one of the big reasons is the cost. While riders continue to be deterred from entering the MGP by what it costs other moves to make it more attractive are really just fiddling with the details. Given the money the Island makes from visitors it's an ongoing scandal that entry fees are high and still rising.
