Many people will remember Dubliner Eddie Laycock having epic battles at the TT in the late 1980's when he achieved two TT wins starting with the 1987 Junior 250 when he beat Steve Hislop who turned the cards on Eddie when he finished 2nd behind Steve a few days later in the TT F2 race.

Returning to winning ways, Eddie achieved his second TT win when he collected the 1989 400 Trophy another 2nd place followed in the Junior 250 when Ulsterman Johnny Rea achieved his one and only TT win.

Having already competed in GP's in 1988 and 1989, Eddies sponsor Joe Millar was keen to leave the roads and concentrate on GP's with support from Yamaha Japan, ROC France and Harris Performance.

Eddies final TT appearance was in 1990 when he was on the podium in the Junior with Messrs Lougher and Hislop sharing the podium in what was a TT epic.

With Yamaha insisting that the Grand Prixs are priority, Eddie went on to enjoy racing against many great names such as Swantz, Lawson, Mamola on factory bikes and is looking forward to meeting Kevin Swantz at TT 2012.

Although he had an inkling to have his swansong at the TT, it was impossible to arrange the correct package for a one off so Eddies final race was Daytona 200 1993 when he finished 10th with a 4th in the 250. class.

Dogged with ill health in 2006, Eddie underwent operations and chemotherapy and despite given the all clear in 2007, he was advised by his sugeon on 22nd December 2010 that he now needed to have his left leg and hip amputated as a matter of priority.

Supported by his wife Helen and children James and Jack , the Laycocks are looking forward to a family holiday which was at the suggestion of John Harris a long term sponsor and friend of Joey Dunlop .

Kevin Quirk of JDF said ' Joeys charity provide unique facilites for people with all levels of disabilities and we are very pleased that the Laycock family can use our facilities'
