MV Agusta will join the British Superbike Championship in 2013 with a two-man team run with backing from the Italian factory.

This will be a well-funded outfit, run through franchised dealer Robinsons of Rochdale with full MV Agusta Corse backing from the Varese-based manufacturer and UK importer MotoGB.

Between now and the first race of the British Superbike Championship in 2013 the team will be preparing their latest-spec’ 2013 MV Agusta F4-RR machines in readiness for an exciting season’s racing.

Steve Rostron, General Manager of Robinsons of Rochdale says:

“These are exciting times for MV Agusta and British racing in general. The MSV-run BSB series is the best domestic series in the world, so it’s little wonder that MV Agusta want the UK series to be the crucible in which their amazing updated F4-RR is tested against the best machines and riders from around the globe. We are under no illusions as to the work ahead to ensure the machine’s competitiveness in the heat of this intense competition, but with the backing of the factory and with some exciting future developments we hope to get the MV Agusta name back on the map in British racing. We intend to run a strong, two-man team so we can develop the F4 into a true championship contender. Much of the infrastructure is already in place, as the team will feature race hospitality that will seat 50 people, a top-line team manager and two riders – all of whom are yet to be named.”

Future announcements including location and timing of a full team launch will be announced in due course.

The MV Agusta factory itself dates back to 1907 when the firm was founded by Giovanni Agusta. The first road motorcycle was built in 1945 and in the coming decades great names such as John Surtees, Phil Read, Giacomo Agostini and Mike Hailwood would ride and win races and titles on MV Agusta machinery.

Over the decades MV Agusta has won 63 world championships, but today the name is synonymous with exotic, high-performance motorcycles which are effectively rolling works of art.
