Bid to have TT hotel each year in Noble’s Park
TT visitors have had the chance to stay at Snoozebox Limited’s temporary hotel in Noble’s Park for the last two years.
Now the London-based company is seeking planning permission (13/91530/B) for a hotel with up to 240 beds and marquee for two weeks each year for the TT Festival.
In a letter from Savage and Chadwick Architects submitted with the application to planners, it states:
‘In their discussion with the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure it is clear that there will be a continued shortage of bed spaces when compared with visitor numbers for future TT events as the popularity of the TT races continues to grow.’
If approved, the complex would again be located on land next to Noble’s Park pavilion.
The hotel accommodation is provided by bedroom pods within the converted storage containers linked by walkway/staircase gantries.
Food and drinks are offered in the marquee.
The facility needs no main services or drainage. Electricity is provided by temporary generators.
The complex would be staffed by a general manager with a team of housekeeping staff.
Snoozebox has found that it takes up to three weeks to set up the hotel and then 10 days to dismantle and remove.
It is a condition of the lease with Douglas Council, which owns the land, that Snoozebox reinstates affected land once the hotel has been removed.
Access to the complex would continue to be via Noble’s Park access road.
In February 2012, government planners approved Snoozebox Limited’s application (12/00001/B) for a temporary hotel for two years.
