Les finished one race, that was in the Manx, his first in 1989,  are you saying he has raced on the mountain of recent?  Les daughter was a friend of my daughter when we were over for the Manx, one of his children was seriously ill and I thought he said he would not return to the island.
Hi Spanners
Les raced in and finished the 125 race at the TT in 1989. That was his only finish on the Mountain Course, he had DNFs in the 3 MGP Classic Juniors of 89-91.
He was still racing classics on the shorts until at least 2 years ago and may still be at it at the age of about 83.

Not on the Mountain Course, but certainly at the Pre-TT at Billown, Ted Fenwick is still there; more often than not on the podium in the 250 Singles class. His riding number always correlates with his age - it will be 87 this year!

Ian Dugdale was born on the 29th May 1969, so he raced in his first manx a few months after his 18th birthday.

The youngest rider to win at the MGP was Alex George at just 18.

Was Phillip McCallen 18 when he won a Manx?

Olie was 19 when he won both the newcomers and lightweight at the Manx...he looked so young that they checked his age before giving him the bubbly..

RE: Youngest and Oldest riders
Comments on several posts comiong up I hope I keep them in the right order!
I am fairly sure Les Judkins is still racing at CRMC he certainly appears in the results this year!
According to Wiki and the TT database Arthur Wheeler was 73 when he last raced in the Manx, although like splashdown I though he was older than that! I seem to remember him getting younger some years! One of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.
I remember Phillip McCallen's first year, my parents were marshalling up on the mountain during practice when he stopped there. I thought he was older than 18 but could be wrong.
When my brother and I started at the Manx circa 20 years ago the rules were that you had to be 18 by a set date, not the start of the event. That meant that to have turned 18 by that date and not turned 19 by the start of the event left about a 3 month window for birthdays that would allow you to first race at 18. Hope that makes sense! This meant that although both my brother and I had got the required license before our 18th birthdays neither of us could first ride until we were 19.
I've no doubt this was different in the past and may well be different again now but one thing that hasn't changed is that you had to be 18 the race in the Manx. So Michael can't of been 17, one of those dates must be wrong!!!

I'll finish it one day!

Google says 19th April 1989 so 17 would be correct.

I remember reading in a article in the run up to TT 2010 that Michael said in 06 that he wanted to race so Robert got the pen out. Presumably changed the date on his birth certificate. I'd have to check this but I think the race programme in 2010 lists him as the same age as the 2009 programme aswell.

I think Albert Moule was one of the older solo TT competitors. He went on to be a travelling marshal afterwards.

Albert Moule the Gentleman Racer from pre war days with the Dudley Grammar School Helmet, there lies a man of mistery, Albert along with Pat Walsh helped me get started racing back in the early 60s.

I was at his bungalow many years later just before he was due to lose his licence at the 55 age limit.  He kept a 6 speed CR93 in his bedroom, I picked up a framed photograph, it was very young Albert, somewhere on the North West Frontier, mounted on horseback in officers dress with the white police type helmet , with a troop of turbaned lancers. Without question a late 19th century photo, Definitely last of the Bengal Lancers stuff, his true aged when he retired? you would never know a very fit man, no smoking, drinking or women in his life, Bob Heath called him Holy Moly. He marshalled for a long time after with his mate JacK Harding and went on to work for Len Vale-Onslow on the Stratford Road Birmingham almost until he died.

Great man and a privilege to be his friend.
