RE: Tuesday Practice Session
End of play for today - big crash at Laurel Bank apparently, which is going to take ages to clear up, plus the mountain is totally soaked.

No news on who the rider is in the accident - fingers crossed it's just scenery/oil, etc on the road that's causing the clear up.

Edit @ 20:18 - Manx Radio Facebook are reporting that section of the course has a big oil spill on it, so that's part of the reason why they've stopped the race. No other news though.

What heppens if we have more bad weather and practice / qualifying is again canceled, and competitors ( especialy new comers ) do not have enough time to qualify in all their classes, or even fail due to lack of time to qualify at all, will they be allowed to race ?

Qualifying again cut short as deteriorating conditions on the Isle of Man reduce session

After the disappointment of Monday evening's session being cancelled, riders were back out on the course on Tuesday for the 2015 Isle of Man TT Races, fuelled by Monster Energy, but with strong winds and squally showers, the decision was made to make the session untimed but deteriorating conditions on the Isle of Man resulted in the sidecars missing out completely.

Although the session was untimed at least the competitors had the opportunity to get out on the Mountain Course on all of their bikes with sessions scheduled for all classes.

At 6.25pm, the 1000cc sessions were finally unleashed for the first time although riders were warned of strong winds on the Mountain, bright sun at Appledene and damp patches at Tower Bends.

First away were Michael Dunlop and Michael Rutter, swiftly followed by Ian Hutchinson and James Hillier, Guy Martin and Bruce Anstey and Lee Johnston and Gary Johnson. However, the latter only got as far as Ballaugh before breaking down and Dan Stewart was another of the early starters to suffer problems although he was able to return to the Grandstand and get back out.

All the riders were out on their Superbikes and Hutchinson was first to complete a lap ahead of Dunlop, Rutter and Martin, the last three all pulling in to either make changes or switch to their Superstock machines.

Conor Cummins also pulled reporting that Windy Corner was living up to its name whilst Ryan Farquhar also stated there were a number of damp patches in places.

The session lasted until 7.05pm, which meant just six riders managed to get out for a third lap; Hutchinson, Hillier, John McGuinness, Anstey, Martin and Rutter. All six managed two laps on their Superbike and one on their Superstock.

At 7.10pm, it was the turn of the Supersports and Lightweights although rain was already reported on the west coast of the island. Martin Jessopp was first away on his Lightweight machine but the majority of the field were Supersport-mounted including Jamie Hamilton, Michal Dokoupil, David Johnson, William Dunlop and Ivan Lintin.

However, just as the riders were two thirds of the way round their first lap, the rain started to get heavier, on both the west coast and over the Mountain. Indeed, McGuinness reported conditions were very sketchy on his third lap and that it was also very cold over the Mountain.

With conditions worsening, Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson decided to flag the session off at 7.35pm with riders out on course brought back to the start and finish under waved yellow flags.

It was hoped to get the F2 Sidecars underway at 8.10pm but with no sign of the weather easing over the Mountain, the unfortunate decision was made to bring the evening's activities to an end.

The weather reports for the rest of the week are broadly positive so hopes are high for some good, clear practice sessions ahead of Saturday's first scheduled race day.

There were three reported incidents in the solo's session; American Brandon Cretu and Philip Crowe were reported off at Kerrowmoar and Laurel Bank but were both reported OK by the travelling marshals while Mark Herbertson was airlifted to Nobles with a reported shoulder injury after coming off at Mountain Box.

Tomorrow's qualifying session is due to see Superbikes, Superstocks and Supersports out at 18.20 (GMT) with Sidecars due out at 20.00.

Hi V Twin Mechanic,

I've recently found out (thanks to BcakWeleher - see the thread in TT2015 - Raceday to Extended Practice Day) that there's a precedent set in 2013. That year there was very little practice so Saturday race day was then altered so that a solo morning practice took place with the race then moved to the Sunday afternoon.

If the rest of this week's practice sessions hold up then there's little chance of a similar situation happening again this year.

No surprise that as usual the chairs get bumped. You really have to take your hat off to the riders and passengers who return year after year to be treated as less important than the solos.

You need to listen more carefully - they played the clerk of the course announcement and he said there had been a big incident, and it would take a while to clear. If it had just been a blown motor and no accident, they would have said that, and then said they would need to clean the road. However when they say it's an "incident" then it will involve a crashed bike.

It's 'cos they know that the pecking order is bikes first, slideys second; the slideys are just 1/5th of the race classes of the festival, the rest being solos, so they realise the solos are mostly going to be first priority (I say mostly, however I think it was last year when they put the slideys out first in one session as the weather had ruined most of their practice during the week. And if I remember correctly, they repaid that gesture by leaving an oil slick most of the way around the island, killing off the solo practice sessions that followed).

If the slideys decided to not come any more then the TT would still continue, but not the other way around. Closer To The Edge was all about the solo stars; Joey was a solo rider; Ago was a solo rider, Hailwood was a solo rider; McGuiness - solo rider; Hutchy - Solo; Mickey Dunlop - Solo; Martin (the biggest star the TT has seen with regards to appealing to people who wouldn't follow bike/real road racing) - Solo rider.

Might not be fair, but the majority of people go to the TT to see the solos, and then watch the sidecars 'cos they're on the same billing.  (actually, most people go to watch the bikes, get cheesed, and try and talk to the locals, plus ride a few laps - or was that just me??) SmileSmile

The sidecars went out first on the Thursday. They had just over an hour, but about half an hour was lost due to a red flag to get an ambulance to a civilian. The solo session went out afterwards but the weather was a factor - only supersport and lightweights were out. They ran until about 9pm.

RE: Tuesday Practice Session + Report
I stand corrected (although I'm still sure that recently they did mess up a practice session (probably theirs) 'cos one blew up and laid a slick a huge way around the course.)

Anyway, the slideys will get practice tonight and tomorrow so everyone should be ready to race.

Edit: LOL, just seen what moderators/the system has altered my post. get cheesed = get drunk; talk to the locals = chase the local ladies SmileSmile

Wasn't quite "chase" though was it (lol) !!!!
