Members of the Paint The Kerbs Club, in their PTK bandanas, are seen (clearly) relaxing at the Goodwood Revival.

Work will commence on Monday to repaint 'Black and White' kerbs at various locations around both the TT and Southern 100 Courses.

For the works to be carried out safely motorists are urged to go no faster than 50mph on the approaches to the work areas, with 30mph speed limits where the work is actually taking place.

The locations of the speed limits will change on a daily basis as the work progresses.

The work is estimated to be completed no later than Wednesday 25th April.

RE: PAINT THE KERBS!
There's more from the DOI:

"The Department is aware of comments and criticism about the need to repaint kerbs around the courses. Whilst it is the case that the Department is currently responsible for doing this work, it is carried out in accordance with a Schedule provided by the race organisers. This Schedule indicates the areas where edge lines and kerb painting assists competitors in safely negotiating the course. In the past kerbs have been painted in accordance with tradition rather than to address specific safety needs. In the interests of minimising risk, the locations of painted kerbs and road edge markings have been fully reviewed by the ACU and painting is now only carried out in the locations specifically identified in their schedule."

Nonsense! Painting of kerbs in accordance with tradition is a Northern Ireland art-form.

This is more about saving paint and saving face, although the finger is now pointing directly at the ACU.

RE: PAINT THE KERBS!
Are the kerbs going to be clearly painted for the MGP - or is that too much to ask - yet again?

A clear view of the kerbs is even more crucial in the poorer evening light conditions that are frequently encountered by MGP competitors, many of whom have little or no previous experience of the TT Course.

Well, if it wasnt done at TT time then the Department of Economic Development (The DE(a)D) will probably decide that it doesnt need doing at MGP time either, to bring it into line with the TT. HuhHuh

The black and white paint should have been applied by now, so the racers can see the kerbs CLEARLY and SAFELY.

Please comment below if there are still any areas around the course where you feel that kerb-clarity could and should still be improved.

Not that I looked last year but been on Google Ground today and noticed the old top entrance to the Crosby pub has a gap in the kerb painting.

Just been for a few laps and all the quick places where definition is needed have bright black and white paint .. I can't see what the problem is, if you've made an error that means you get deep breath close to the kerb or hit it then I doubt very much the error will be down to how much shine or what colour the kerb is.

The Grandstand, scoreboard and pits are a fair indication of where to put the bike on that bit

Don't know what that line is but the start line and chequered flag is about 50 yards earlier at the timekeepers' hut.
