HICKY JOINS THE 130 CLUB

Louth racer Peter Hickman rounded off his two weeks at the Isle of Man TT festival with a fantastic display in the high profile Senior TT where he not only joined the 130mph club but went on to join the 131 mph club as he recorded an outstanding lap of 131.626mph on the final lap as he powered the Lee Hardy Racing/Briggs Equipment UK BMW over the finish line. What makes this even more amazing is that Peter was riding his Superstock bike while the majority of the riders were on Superbikes which have considerably more power.

The race was marred by a serious incident on lap two when Jamie Hamilton was airlifted to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. This caused a red flag which halted the race on lap two. After a long delay it was announced the race was to run with a shortened race distance of four laps with riders pitting after two laps for refuelling.

Hicky was flying on the first lap and up into eighth place at the first checkpoint. He gained ground to sixth at Ballaugh and completed the lap in that position recording his first 130mph speed with a 130.4mph. He was held up slightly in traffic on lap two and ended the lap in eighth position but despite that he upped his pace to record 130.511mph!

After a fast pit stop Peter was back up to sixth place but with only a couple of seconds covering three or four riders he ended the lap in seventh position. Hicky began the final lap intent on posting a fast time and moved up to seventh place at the Bungalow. A speedy descent down the Mountain to the finish saw him cross the finish line in a fine seventh place setting an unbelievable speed of 131.626mph – amazing for a rider who is in only his second year of competing at the TT. This result makes him the eighth fastest rider in the history of the TT and maintains his 100% finish record.

Peter Hickman:

“Today’s been absolutely mega and the whole two weeks have been awesome. After coming close in the Superstock race, I’m so pleased to get my first 130mph laps in and to end up with a 131.6 is incredible. I’m over the moon with how this year’s TT has gone so a massive thanks to everyone for all their support and especially everyone at Lee Hardy Racing, Briggs Equipment and Jack Valentine at ValMoto.”

Lee Hardy, Team Owner:

“I can’t believe it and what Peter’s achieved today, lapping at 131.6mph in just his second year, is unreal. I did a lap with him in the car on Thursday and really got to appreciate what he does, how good his knowledge is and how much homework he’s put in. its credit to the team that they’ve put a bike underneath him capable of such results and speeds and everyone’s hard work has paid off, from the team to the sponsors, everyone.”

Peter now turns his attention back to the British Superbike Championship with the fourth round of the series taking place at Snetterton on June 19-21.

Peter looks very good everywhere i've seen him, he's got that "doesn't look quick but is" thing going on. Impressive
