I think Paul Bird deserves a big hand this TT as he could still see in Hutchy what a lot of other people had thought was never coming back. He seems to be one of those people that inspire those around him, well done Birdy.

I agree Creg. All too often riders lose their seats for one thing or another. The forward thinking of Bird has proved correct. To hire (probably) the best and fastest rider out there has been a stroke of genius. The rider should be applauded and rightly so, but the man who puts up the finance to enable the rider shouldn't be forgotten. I don't think Bird will struggle with retaining any sponsorhip deals, moreso, there will be sponsors on the phone to him to get their name on the bike. All good

The PBM Kawasaki is a fast bike.

Not taking anything away from Paul Bird I think Hutchy's wins on the Traction Control Yamaha were more impressive - especially as they were a last minute ride after his MV Agusta ride fell through.

but i have a lot of respect for what his teams have done over the years

Interesting - I've not thought that. All I've seen is a very driven, and successful, businessman/team owner who enjoys winning, and beating the competition. Nice people can win, however they are as driven, stubborn, and self centred as any arrogant businessman.

personally i like the guy buy ive seen both sides to him

Think you have to factor in if I am correct but what I understood was the old man made the Poultry business huge (Paul might have made it bigger I dont know ) but the Sports cars and Playboy image doesn't always sit well with some people

I don't have much time for people who are jealous of the "playboy" image. He's earned the money (ok, inherited the family firm, but he's worked hard to keep it earning money - it's not always a given, when son takes over from father, that son has the same business drive as father), so he can spend it how he wants.

As for the obnoxious - successful people do tend to be very sure of themselves - that's what makes them successful.

I thought it was the PBM mechanics who offered to build Hutchy a bike off there own back, Paul Bird new nothing of it originally so maybe the mechanics deserve a big hand for seeing in Hutchy what others didn't.

Nice story, but highly unlikely 😉 . Love him or loathe him Paul Bird does a lot for the sport and has also gone way beyond the call of duty at times, he reportedly paid an injured Stuart Easton a wage after his northwest crash and offered him a ride for when Stuart was ready, Easton was not even a PBM rider at the time. Once again he has picked up Hutchy when SMR eventually gave up on the deal and is reaping the benefits. I'm sure there are plenty of riders that have felt hard done by too, farmer and Ellison spring to mind.

Don't know about story but I was sat listening to the guy from PBM telling the 'story' in an interview on radio TT sat at side of track. It was broadcast all round island so strange he would make it up live on radio

I wasn't knocking Paul Bird either. I don't really think anything of team managers either way. I just love road racing. Utter respect for Hutchy, as a lad from bingley

Fair enough Dead chuffed for Hutchy too, was so happy when he won first superstore race, but got to admit I was routing for mcguiness yesterday watching the live feed by the pool. Not long till I get my island fix at the southern next month 😎

It was an amazing feeling to be at the IOM when he won. Gutted last year he got injured. Been from Bradford but wife from Morecambe I'm torn between Hutchy and Mcguiness but pleased for both. My heart said Mcguiness though. Have s fantastic southern 100
