GOVERNMENT PULLS OUT OF CYCLING WEEK
GOVERNMENT PULLS OUT OF CYCLING WEEK
16 September 2003
Manx International Cycling Week is to end.
A statement by the organisers, the Manx Viking Wheelers and a support committee, says the Department of Tourism no longer feels it can financially support the festival which began in 1936.
The decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting of the organisation last night.
The festival has been under pressure for many years as numbers dwindled and in recent times the organisers have come under mounting pressure over road closures.

Re: GOVERNMENT PULLS OUT OF CYCLING WEEK
So a few years ago it would never hae happened after all it has run since 1936
and look at te reasons opposition to road closures and decline in visitors
So how safe does this make the TT & MGP ?

"The festival has been under pressure for many years as numbers dwindled"
I think that situation is some way off yet, as regards TT.

Re: GOVERNMENT PULLS OUT OF CYCLING WEEK
I think that the TT visitors have a rapport with the Manx that the cyclists dont, but its a valid point from Eric. When its not profitable the TT will end...fact.

Re: GOVERNMENT PULLS OUT OF CYCLING WEEK
In Xanadu,did Kubla Khan,
A stately pleasure-dome decree,
But cos it didnt turn a buck,
T'was turned to a financehouse full of comeovers,
In zero three...
With apologies to Coleridge

Re: GOVERNMENT PULLS OUT OF CYCLING WEEK
"And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His ostrich eyes, his floating feathers!
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the Guinness of County Down."
More apologies,
We only have emus here and they don't put their heads in the sand, they are rather optimistic creatures - not given to depression at all, at all.

There was a young man from Australia
Who painted his bottom like a dahlia.
The colours were true.
They were red, white and blue,
But the smell was a bit of a failya.
No TT connection but it's my favourite poem.
Of course the TT will stop when it's not profitable. What wouldn't? Don't worry about it- enjoy it.
