A new documentary charting Ryan Farquhar’s return to motorcycle road racing following his temporary retirement from the sport will be broadcast on BBC1 NI on Tuesday night at 10.45pm.

The KMR Kawasaki team owner called time on his illustrious career after his uncle, Trevor Ferguson, died following a crash at the Manx Grand Prix in 2012.

Farquhar concentrated on running his Dungannon-based team the following season before making a racing return in the Supertwin class at selected events in 2014 plus a handful of outings on Roger Winfield’s Classic Paton and Yamaha machines.

However, Irish National road racing’s most successful ever rider stepped up his involvement last season, returning to the Superbike class once more and clinching a victory on his ZX-10R at the Tandragee 100.

Farquhar also returned to the top of the podium at international level, holding off team-mate Jeremy McWilliams to win the opening Supertwin race at the North West 200.

The renowned Ulster rider, who will travel to Australia to compete for Team GB in the Phillip Island Classic meeting this month, reflects on his life in road racing in the 30-minute programme, entitled Ryan Farquhar – Back on the Road.

The new documentary also looks back at his thrilling battles with former Grand Prix star McWilliams in the Supertwin races at last year’s North West 200.

Farquhar is gearing up for another season of racing between the hedges, when he will continue to run his immaculately prepared KMR machinery.
