Drinkwater. Is there such a place on the TT course and if so where is it ?

Correct, Stella. The left-hander at 11th milestone was named after Ben Drinkwater who died in a TT accident there in about 1950, I'd say, without consulting any books.

Certainly, in the Manx Grand Prix programmes of the 1960's and early 1970's, Drinkwater's was always featured on the TT Course map which appeared in the centre pages.

It was where Ben Drinkwater lost his life in the 1949 Junior TT race unfortunatly becoming the very first rider to lose his life in a world championship Grand Prix race!

People can look this up, but it may be of interest to repeat it here.
Ben (Reuben) Drinkwater.
Finished twice in the TT. 3rd in the 1947 Lightweight TT on an Excelsior and 4th in the 1948 Lightweight on a Moto Guzzi.
Also he had three finishes at the Manx, the best being 2nd in the 1946 Lightweight on Excelsior. He first raced at the Manx in 1937.
He was second in the Lightweight at the North West 200 in 1947.Retired with engine trouble in 1949 when running second.
He was 39 when he died and we can only ponder what his career may have been if it had not been interrupted by the war.

Talking of names.
I have recently moved to a new house in Andover.
It is a big house so I thought it would "stand" a name. We went through all the Arsenal football and Isle of Man names. We have settled on Rhencullen, simply because it sounds good!
Great place to watch, too.
Now, I am looking around for a suitable picture to hang in the hall.

My last house was Keppel, and my prized Rod Organ picture of Hailwood in 1978 fitted the bill, as I watched that race above Keppel gate...oh, happy day...I can still taste that champagne, cooled all day in a conduit under the mountain road...

I watched that race hanging out of the hedge at the end of Cronk-y-Vody!
Memories indeed.
Never saw anyonr take the 11th like the maestro, although Joey was close!

My lounge boasts Rod Organs Flying Mike (Hailwood oevr Ballaugh on the 6, Great Scot (Bob Mac, bottom of Bray), No ordinary Joe (Yer Maun at Quarry) and 60s paddock.
Works for me!

Just to keep this tangential string going, my house has been "Brandywell" for countless years, and in fact my two previous houses were "Brandywell" as well..

Nice name but the well has only water in it !!!

Most Australians houses don't have names.
It is a waste of time, they never come when you call them.

Now, I have a system to help me when I return home "tired" after a good club night at the local....I shout the house name a few times and my porch light comes on !!! (So a name IS a help !)

However, the memsahib kindly drops heavy items on me head from the bedroom window as well so I really knows I'm home !

I know someone who called their house The Banks - 'cos that's who owns it!
