Initial Report is that John came off at Primrose and was taken to hospital with a suspected "damaged" leg.

Consequently, due to the Red Flag and the clear up etc, the Practice Session was abandoned.

Pole position for the Superbike race therefore goes to Michael Rutter with a fastest lap of 4.23.

Followed by local man Glenn Irwin in second

Michael Dunlop takes third place on the grid.

It would fit with Honda's terrible TT build up

Bruce Anstey has to be the obvious one, and there is also the Mugen to sort out.

RE: John McGuinness came off his bike and was taken to hospital.
Statement by Honda

During Superbike qualifying at the North West 200 today, Honda Racing’s John McGuinness was involved in an incident at Primrose Hill.

Within a short time of the incident John was transported by ambulance to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he is currently undergoing treatment for a suspected broken right leg.

As is standard procedure following such an incident, John’s motorcycle is being held by race organisers after which time it will be released to the team.

As the team is unable to analyse John’s bike before this evening’s Superstock race, the Honda Racing team has opted to withdraw Guy Martin’s entry in today’s Superstock race as a precaution.

The Honda Racing team and John would like to thank the prompt action of the marshals, circuit staff and emergency services.

I can't see Bruce swapping either of the alternative big-bike choices he has available to him at Padgetts. They're having loads of agg getting to grips with their new 'blade too; and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Lee Johnston uses alternatives at the TT. What with JM now looking unlikely to be racing again this season (if ever?), Honda could well end up with Guy being their sole SP2-mounted rider: and he looks like a shadow of his former racing-self at present. It's turning into a nightmare for the big H...

id never even thought of bruce and would be very surprised if he did switch
too be honest i cant think of anyone who will switch
its got to be a rider whos either not got a ride or 1 whos bikes are giving trouble
thats my view at moment maybe a under funded privateier who will take the ride to save there own bike and money

Mugen have more money and PR put into the two Zero TT bikes than all the other teams put together.
They will want a top runner on Johns bike 100%
Bruce rode it last year, and is the obvious choice, depending on how they parted company with him and gave his bike to GM.

Big disappointment for John and Honda. Get well soon John.

Would think Honda will be looking for a replacement rider, wonder if they would consider Gary Johnson?

RE: John McGuinness came off his bike and was taken to hospital.
Terrible news for John and road racing in general - hopefully this injuries are minor or at worst recoverable and he's back on his feet soon.  IMO he's definitely earned a rest - maybe time to call it a day?

As for the musical chairs.  They (factory Honda) need someone who is capable of troubling the podium so my guess would be Connor to the factory squad.  Hopefully Padgets have got Williams number - he's got the quality to justify some decent bikes and he's had rotten luck with this years deals.

I've got tired of saying that I can't understand why Gary Johnson doesn't have a decent ride but it seems that despite his talent people don't want to work with him.  Shame because he was up there with the best for a while.

Reading between the lines the new Fireblade sounds like it still needs a lot of work to get to speed and they are running out of time for the TT.  Looking like a bit of a poison chalice.

Best wishes to John from all of us in his hometown.
I wonder if the powers that be would let 'someone' have a 'comeback'?
Could be worth it for the publicity, but with no signatures on the licence it probably would kick up a big fuss!

He is Mr nice in front of the cameras, but not so much behind the scenes

Nice enough lad, but not fast enough anymore for the top three, otherwise he would still be there.

I'm a great fan of John's on and off the track. I was shocked and saddened to hear the news this morning. Great loss to the TT.
Hello Sam Pato and Malcolm. That time of year again. Hope you are both well.

John McGuinness in ‘good spirits’ following NW200 crash

Road racer John McGuinness is said to be in ‘good spirits’ following a crash during a Superbike practice session at the North West 200.

The Morecambe man crashed at Primrose Corner on Thursday afternoon and was taken by ambulance to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital.

On Thursday evening, his Honda racing team said the 45 year old had undergone surgery to his leg and thanked well-wishers for their support.

"John has been in theatre having his right tib/fib plated. He's in good spirits. Thank you for all the well wishes"
