RE: Bushys lose the Bottleneck Car park for TT 2018
Bushy's outbid for beer tent location
Brewery will move after 20 years at Bottleneck Car Park
It's been announced Bushy's will no longer run its Beer Tent on Douglas promenade.
A statement has been released on the brewery's Facebook page says it is 'disappointed' to have been informed the company has lost the contract.
The contract was put out to tender by Douglas Council, who own the land.
Last month, councillors had hinted that Bushy's would be awarded the contract - calling the tent 'a huge TT attraction'.
Despite being outbid, the firm's Managing Director Martin Brunnschweiler says it'll find an alternative site for next year's event.
It's the latest in a series of controversies involving Bushy's and the TT.
In January, the company was given a legal warning for its use of the trademarked letters 'TT' on its merchandise.
Mr Brunnschweiler says staff had been making plans to source a new site for the tent as soon as it was announced a tender process would be taking place.
Bushy's Brewery Ltd - PRESS RELEASE
Bushy’s Brewery is disappointed to announce that the company has been unsuccessful in its bid to run the TT Beer Tent at the Bottleneck Car Park in Douglas from 2018.
Earlier today, we were informed by Douglas Council that we had been outbid and as a result we had not been selected to operate the site we have spent so long fashioning.
Having celebrated the Beer Tent’s 20th anniversary during TT 2017, we are naturally devastated that such a piece of traditional entertainment will now no longer be in its rightful home.
We will be extremely sad to leave the site which Bushy’s Brewery began operating so many years ago following the closure of Bushy’s Bar.
However, this is not the end of Bushy’s Beer Tent.
Since the local authority announced it would be opening a competitive tender process to find an operator for the site, staff at Bushy’s have been making alternate plans should the brewery’s bid not be accepted.
Although at this stage we cannot say where the Beer Tent will be during TT 2018, preparations are in place to ensure Bushy’s remains at the heart of TT entertainment.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters, from the Isle of Man, the UK, Europe and further afield. It has been our absolute pleasure to welcome you to the festival, and we look forward to seeing friends old and new next year.

RE: Bushys lose the Bottleneck Car park for TT 2018
Council hoping for bigger and better beer tent
Douglas Council says it hopes the new TT beer tent operator will attract a wider audience than before.
This week, the local authority announced the Hooded Ram had won the tendering process to run the tent on the Bottleneck car park from 2018 until 2022.
In a statement, the council says the Douglas-based brewery aims to create a festival feel and re-imagine the leisure and hospitality site.
It says the company will offer a diverse programme of entertainment, live music, support for local charities, and artisan and street food.
Nobody from the Hooded Ram was available for comment.
Douglas Borough Council
Council confirms Bottleneck car park TT festival operator for 2018-2022
Douglas Borough Council has awarded the tender to operate the Bottleneck car park during the TT festival for five years from 2018 to 2022 to The Hooded Ram.
The proposal from the Douglas-based brewery aims ‘to create a festival feel’ and attract a wider audience. The company promises a re-imagining of the leisure and hospitality space, with a diverse entertainment programme and a varied catering offer that will support other local companies and their products and deliver an enhanced customer experience. Live music, including a ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition, support for local charities, and the championing of local produce in artisan and street food outlets are set to feature in a move to modernise the image of the TT festival and, says Hooded Ram, ‘ensure that the event is executed as effectively as possible.

RE: Bushys lose the Bottleneck Car park for TT 2018
With regards to the ' Battle Of Th Bands' competition, they will have an very unexpected and expensive problem on there hands.
All of the bands that have performed previously on the Carole Nash by ELS Bushys stage ( long name, but it is what it is) have been local.
There is a petition started to get all local bands to boycott the Hooded Ram stage for two reasons. The first is in support of Bushys ( and quite a few of previous played bands have confirmed that they will boycott) and the second is the format of a Battle Of The Bands means that they dont normally get paid to play. So, they are going to have to pay a lot of money ( Hotels, ferrys etc ) to get some decent bands from this side of the water, or end up with a stage full of inexperienced local bands, which brings me to the next ( huge ) expense, the stage itself.
In the last few years, the stage and all the lighting, sound, and operation has been provided by local company ELS. They are the ONLY company on the Island that have these facility's, and for anyone that has taken any notice of what is on stage, there is about £200,000 of gear.
ELS have also committed there support for Martin and Bushys, and wont under any circumstances be providing anything for Hooded Ram.
Hooded Ram are going to sh*t themselves when they find out how much it will cost them to bring over an identical facility that ELS provide.
All this 'Artisan food' baloney is just aimed to same people who have promoted the whole VIP package that the DED provide. I cant see them venturing down to Douglas Prom, walking through the fair and all the local 'yoof' to get to there 'artisan' destination.
There has previously been another beer tent on the prom opposite the Villa, and that didnt work even with all the entertainment and road closures put in front of it.
I can see another Vision 9 debacle coming down the ( Tram) tracks ( sorry, could not resist that one)

RE: Bushys lose the Bottleneck Car park for TT 2018
I agree there's a good £200-£250k worth of stage, sound ,lighting equipment on display at Bushys, it's a very impressive and well run show beats me why they want to change virtually every aspect of the racing/festival both at the TT and classic/Manx, I understand some aspects will be changed inline with trends, social media,tv, improvement for added enjoyment and revenue, but it seems like they keep using the "to attract a wider audience" thing for everything, there's only so much of a wider audience out there surely, who are they? the wider Punter?folk that appreciate a good artisan pickle chutney at £20 quid a throw while paying £30 a day for a covered seat at hillberry. Interesting post there c iom tt sounds like a none starter for the new guys.

Petitioners demand Bushy's return
Online fans slam Hooded Ram's win
A petition calling on Douglas Council to reverse its decision over the TT beer tent has reached 200 signatures.
It was revealed on Tuesday that Bushy's Brewery has lost its longstanding contract to run the site on the Bottleneck Car Park, after a competitive tender process.
Douglas-based brewers Hooded Ram will now run the tent until 2021.
There's been considerable online backlash at the decision, with many saying the Bushy's tent is a 'TT fixture', and others claiming the brewery has been 'taken advantage of' by councillors.

Beer tent contract not for 'highest bidder'
Council leader weighs in amid outcry
The leader of Douglas Council says he was 'surprised' Bushy's didn't win the TT beer tent contract.
David Christian says councillors had an 'outstanding relationship' with owner Martin Brunnschweiler, who had operated in the Bottleneck car park for two decades.
The Hooded Ram brewery will now run the site during TT fortnight until 2022.
Since the Council's decision, Bushy's has looked at a number of new sites - which could result in two beer tents in close proximity.
Mr Christian says, despite it coming as a shock, the tender process was legitimate:
