Maybe a daft question.....
Can you take Calor gas bottles in your vehicle onto steam packet ferry ? 4.5kilo ones for campsite stoves.
If not, where is best place to purchase on the Island ?

Many thanks

RE: Maybe a daft question.....
you can take almost anything over to the island
but getting it back that's another story

as a rule you cant take gas bottles over on the mananin
but the ben is a little more relaxed on such things they recon its because the sea cats are aluminium hull so if a bottle exploaded it could rip hole in the hull

Get asked at the ferry most years about spare petrol cans in the van, which to me is crazy when the bikes have juice in the tanks which are less well sealed than a jerry can.

Never been asked or pulled on either vessel about gas cylinders in the many years I have travelled and carried them for camping. It is in the T & C's and says you should contact the company.

Never seen Calor Gas on the island, though have bought Camping Gaz refills from the store opposite the Sulby.

When I enquired for my motorhome I was told it’s OK if the bottle is connected up but no to any spare unconnected bottles. Hope this helps.

Never had problem with motorhome but haven’t tried to carry extra bottles over only what the motorhome is designed for, usually get asked if the bottles are turned off in Douglas but cant remember being asked in Liverpool/Heysham

Manx Gas have a depot on the Snugborough Trading Estate just off the TT Course on the right after Braddan Bridge. We were on the Island for the Parish Walk in June and it looked as though the hardware shop on the quayside at Douglas was shut.

Had so much trouble changing gas bottles when Manx gas stoped changing Calor bottles that we had van converted to road gas so we can now fill up when we need it, slight problem is that we have only found one place to fill up with gas in IOM thats at Union Mills
