As this week's action gets underway at the Vauxhall International North West 200, Motorcycle Union of Ireland chiefs have commended spectators who attended recent national race events at Cookstown and Tandragee and have called on fans to continue to 'think and act safely' during this week's action.

Chairman Jack Agnew said:

"We're content with how the new MCUI safety directives have been implemented to date and would like to thank both the promoting clubs and members of the public for supporting important safety procedures.

"At Cookstown and Tandragee spectators were well disciplined, arrived early and a greater number of grandstand seats were utilised. Fans also respected existing and additional prohibited areas. Naturally we continue to ask fans to heed advice, respect prohibited zones, consider safe viewing locations and follow the instructions of marshals and officials at the North West and other race events throughout the season."

The new safety directive is part of a bid to further improve spectator, officials and competitor safety at all race events and prevents members of the pubic being too close to the track.

The directive is part of the implementation process of the Motorcycle Union of Ireland Ulster Centre's official Code of Practice.

All road races in 2013 will be promoted using the Code of Practice and the document can be read online within the 'rules and regulations' section of the MCUI website – http://www.mcui-uc.org.uk.
