The second Supersport and Superbike races were abandoned at the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix on a trying day for the organisers.

A red-flag incident involving four riders at the Deer’s Leap resulted in the second Supersport 600 race being halted on lap one.

Bruce Anstey, Ian Hutchinson, Steve Mercer and Michael Sweeney went down, with Sweeney requring hospital treatment although his injuries are not thought to be serious.

After a long delay, the race was eventually scrapped and Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston pressed ahead with the Supertwin race, which was won by Ivan Lintin for the second year running from Derek McGee and James Cowton.

Earlier in the day, the first Supersport race was also delayed after an incident at Ireland’s corner, with Dan Kneen, Dean Harrison and Keith Amor crashing out.

No serious injuries were reported, although all three were ruled out of the remainder of the event.

At the completion of the Supertwin race, heavy rain lashed the Dundrod course and with time against the organisers, the decision was taken to cancel the second Superbike race.

Meanwhile, French rider Pierre Favre remains in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after coming off during the Dundrod 150 meeting.

English competitor Danny Webb was also hurt in a separate crash on Thursday, sustaining reported fractures.
