Maria Costello MBE is fired up for the challenge of her long-awaited debut in Sidecar racing at this weekend’s Auto 66 Club Sidecar Bash Bonanza at Cadwell Park.

The Northamptonshire racer has kept a keen eye on sidecar racing in recent seasons and jumped at the chance when presented with the opportunity to pilot a Dave De Mott backed Formula Two Suzuki 600cc sidecar, with her passenger Harry Payne.

Last week, Costello took to the Brands Hatch circuit to test an F1 sidecar thanks to her passenger Harry, and Nev Jones Racing who supplied the outfit. She also spent last weekend gaining valuable experience supporting the Team Founds Racing sidecar team at the final BSB race meeting.

“I’ve been a fan of sidecar racing for a long time and having a taste of it in New Zealand, thanks to Tracey Bryan and her partner Steve, planted the idea of racing one.” she said. "While it’s still a form of bike racing, it needs a totally different skill set to the ones I’ve used racing solo bikes over the past 20 years, but it’s a challenge that I’m really looking forward to.”
