Tobermore's Adam McLean on the McAdoo Kawasaki in the Supersport class at the Ulster Grand Prix

Adam McLean will continue to ride for Northern Ireland’s McAdoo Kawasaki Racing Team in 2019.

The Tobermore prospect has signed a new deal with the Cookstown-based outfit following an excellent season for the 22-year-old, with McLean clinching his maiden international success at the Ulster Grand Prix in the Supertwins class on Roy Hanna's Kawasaki. He also claimed a brilliant runner-up result in the Thursday evening Supersport race behind Conor Cummins on the McAdoo Kawasaki.

McLean said:

“I really enjoyed working with McAdoo Kawasaki Racing in 2018, therefore I am very excited to continue the partnership next season. I learned a lot this year and although it has been successful, I know there’s still room for improvement in myself. I’m still in the early stages of my career and the result this year were very positive, which I hope to continue to build on next season,” he added.

“The McAdoo Kawasakis were very competitive and with the help from MSS Performance, I’m really looking forward to the challenge. I would like to say a massive thank-you to McAdoo Kawasaki Racing and MSS Performance for the fantastic opportunity and continued support.”

The Ulster team was hit by tragedy this year when popular Yorkshireman James Cowton was killed in a crash at the Southern 100.

Team owner, Winston McAdoo, said the loss had come as a ‘terrible blow’.

“We’re really looking forward to working with Adam again next season. He’s a superb young rider – still only 22 – but has shown great ability and maturity already. Last season was really tough for the team. We won international road races and many national road races – maybe the only team to do so with two different riders – but losing James was a devastating blow.

“He was a lovely young man with a massive future ahead. It was a very difficult time but although we will never forget him, we must move on with life.”
