Andrew Irwin disqualified from race three at Donington Park
Carrick man will start next British Superbike race from back of grid
Honda Racing’s Andrew Irwin was disqualified from race three at Donington Park following contact with Josh Brookes.
The incident happened at Hollywood, when Irwin drew alongside the VisonTrack Ducati rider.
Australian Brookes crashed out, fortunately escaping injury, as Irwin went on to cross the line in second position ahead of his brother and Honda team-mate, Glenn.
However, the 25-year-old lost his runner-up spot following a decision by Race Direction, with Irwin deemed to have made ‘avoidable/unfair contact’. The Carrick rider will also have to start from the back of the grid in his next race at Snetterton.
The ruling on Sunday evening said:
“Andrew Irwin has been disqualified from BSB Race for avoidable/unfair contact causing a collision/crash with Josh Brookes. Irwin also receives 6 penalty points, 3 of which are suspended for the duration of the 2020 season.
“By virtue of his total penalty points accumulated (6 plus 3 suspended) he will start his next BSB race from the last grid position.”
