The blue riband GAS British MotoGP event hosts the Superstock Championship after the series missed two rounds in the June, Mallory Park round and the cancelled Mondello Park fixture.
McGuinness currently lies in third place in the overall standings and is intent on making a strong impression at the 2.5-mile Leicestershire track. The Morecambe-based rider competed at the venue in the second round of the superstock series in April, where he finished in a strong sixth place after battling with treacherous track and weather conditions. Since then, the HM Plant rider has consistently improved on his results and is anticipating another good outcome and his first rostrum finish of the season aboard his Dunlop-shod Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade. McGuinness: “It will be good to get back racing, we have been having some good results of late and now this weekend I have double the chance to get some major points in the bag. The superstock series is really tough and highly competitive; there is only three points between the sixth-placed racer, and myself so every point counts. It will also be great to be at the MotoGP it really is a fantastic event and atmosphere is always cracking, so fingers crossed it should be a good weekend all round.” Qualifying for the Metzeler National Superstock Championship takes place on Friday 30 June at 16.15 and 18.15. Race one takes place on Saturday 1 July at 16.30 with race two scheduled for Sunday 2 June at 15.45.
