Bulletin 1 - Saturday 27th May

Welcome to the 2000 TT meeting !! Again as in previous years the entries were oversubscribed with 563 entries from 22 countries lining up for the 10 race meeting, including for the first time two riders from Argentina - Walter Cordoba and Edgardo Paredes - who will ride Yamahas in the Junior TT and the first all female Sidecar crew - Wendy Epstein and Dawn Holloway from America.

The Argentinians speak no English so a special Briefing Meeting was arranged for them in Spanish - and with the number of French riders here - a special briefing was held for them today in French.

The weather for the opening session gave scattered showers possible and winds at 25-30mph on the Mountain.

First off promptly at 6.15 pm were 77 Lightweight 400 Kevin Murphy and 26 Junior Sandra Barnett, the fastest lady ever on the TT Course, followed by 2 Junior Nigel Davies and 30 Ultra-Lightweight Sean Leonard. V & M teamsters 7 Micheal Rutter and 9 David Jefferies set off together on their Junior machines closely followed by 12 Jim Moodie. No 5 Lightweight 250 Ian Lougher was also amoung the early starters.

First back with a lap of 114.40mph was David Jefferies - 8 Junior Blair Degerhold lapped at 113.93, Ian Lougher on his 250 lapped at 111.91, Jim Moodie on his 600 at 111.77 and Nigel Davies and Michael Rutter both recorded 110.74. On flying laps David Jefferies di 117.51, Jim Moodie 116.94 and Ian Lougher 114.54mph.

Joey Dunlop was reported stopped at Creg-ny-Baa on his lightweight Honda.

First away in the second session for the bigger classes were 70 Junior David O'Rourke, 18 F1 Gary Carswell, Production 61 Colin Daniels and Junior 6 Adrian McFarland.

Scrutineers report that this evening that 217 solos and 72 sidecars were examined. Incidents reported this evening - 60 Junior Werner Pohler off at Sulby Bridge, 58 Production Glyn Jones off at Governors and 65 Sidecar Vincent Butler/Carl Pegg off at Cruickshanks - all OK
