Photo Where is the Stanley Woods Clock?

I'm not sure if this is the right place, or if its becoming a personal quest or not.

TT visitor for 24 years, and booked for our annual pilgrimage in 25.

Anyhow, the scoreboard on Glenclutchery Road stood for a significant amount of time and yes it was like triggers broom. Many parts were replaced as it was rotten. When the put the fence up round it the writing was on the wall (so to speak) and now its gone. Many arguments for and against.

Some parts of the scoreboard are in the Manx Museum, some are at the motor museum at Jurby, There are a couple of bits at the Victory cafe at the Bungalow and Murrays has a couple of bits at Santon.

However, where is the Stanley Woods clock that used to sit in the middle of the scoreboard?

I personally feel this was one of the more important parts of the scoreboard, and it should have been preserved.
Stanley Woods was well before my time, but history shows him as an important part of the TT and he fairly liked the craic too.
Others have had corners named after them, but there was only 1 clock with his name on it.

I asked last year at the newly opened TT Gallery at the Manx Museum, the curator did not know.
I've asked online several times in various groups including TT, over 50's TT, manx nostalgia etc.
I've even messaged Gef the Mongoose who's online satire I enjoy, but he hasn't gotten back to me.
My homestay Landlady in Onchan has asked around and has come back with nothing, and she's pretty well connected apparently.

I again asked the curators at the Manx Museum this year, and was given an email address, which I appear to have dropped when I was buying my kippers/TT tshirts etc in Douglas that day.

Sorry for the ramble, but does anyone know about the clock?

TT much more spread round the island nowadays but back then, most stayed in and around Douglas.

The nights on Douglas front were hilarious

  Marshals
Posted by: Smokin Haddock Racing - 19-06-2024, 01:35 PM - Forum: TT Related Posts (Only) - Replies (8)

Great news on the marshalling front. At times this year there were over 1,000 marshals in use. A lot more than the minimums and a credit to the marshals association who have massively upped their game on many fronts. Possibly now attracting a younger crowd as well. Access to training has been easier. I did the Incident Management Course locally to myself, my wife will follow and my daughter intends doing it during practice week next year. Whoever instigated the cavalcade a while back has made life much easier.

  Barbon Hill Climb - 22nd June 2024
Posted by: captainsparkledotcom - 19-06-2024, 11:48 AM - Forum: Other Race Meetings - MotoGP, WSB & BSB, Irish Roads etc - - Replies (4)

Yes folks, it's a month earlier this year! to try & get better weather, apparently.
Anyway, this could be a good 'un!
'More than 1 TT winner will be on track' is what they have said!!!
John McGuinness is listed in the entries, along with Storm Stacey (BSB runner)
& Andy Hornby & the Black Eagle MV Agusta racing team (they've fielded Dean Harrison, Lee Johnston & Michael Dunlop in the Classic TT in years gone by)
+ of course, myself & the Famous Mr. Led!  Confused

Just a few weeks ago the event was in danger of being cancelled, due to low entries, but it's looking good now, good forecast & resurfaced track!!

Don't know what you chaps think but I use to love getting up and putting the radio on at the TT. But this year the lady presenter that did the morning show really got on my nerves this year. The music was also poor in my opinion.Johnny Moss was his usual witty self. I also miss the likes of Roy Moor. He could easily fill in a hour or two between races. I can't see us going back to the days off " Over to Roy Moor at the hair pin". But it would be nice for him to still play a part in the build up or between races. The other thing was how quick they shut it down after the sinor . No afterburner show it was like the TT hadn't happened. A few events on the Sunday would be nice just to help wind down to next year.

TT 2024 done.... What d'ya think of that then?
Posted by: H2pots - 10-06-2024, 07:47 AM - Forum: TT Related Posts (Only) - Replies (67)

Well, another TT is done.

New format doesn't work with poor weather. I talked to loads of people about this and not one person was in favour of it. Maybe, i talked to all the wrong people or that is the general feeling

I were over for ten days, it were a 50/50 split with the weather in the ten days. The first weekend was great, warm sunshine and blue skies.

Monday the Friday was difficult, we got most of the races in but there were delays and cancellations galore. Very tricky weekdays.

I watched from morown, barregarrow crossroads, union mills hall x 2, and Glen duff. All great.

Was great to witness some history being made, Michael Dunlop becoming the most successful ever and Davy Todd joining the top end, two wins was great to see. Also some great podiums.... Brookes and Herbertson were refreshing faces spraying the champers.

Overall, I've enjoyed TT2024, there's been ups and downs but I'm glad i were there witnessing first hand the things i saw.

Now, roll on the manx grand prix.

What's your thoughts?
