The other day I got a booklet from a race enthusiast who I hardly know. He's a member of the Motorcycle Historical Club here in Sweden. I was at the Stockholm section of the club before Christmas with a lecture about Isle of Man and the races there.

Newly he called me and asked if I wanted to get an old book that he owened. I said yes please of course. Now I've looked in it but I've not read it all yeat. It's a fine source full with pictures and information that I didn't know. The booklet is released by BP 1960. Is it a rare book?



There's an interesting map of the Clypse Course in it. As some of you might know, a part of the Clypse Course was the current TT course but it was ridden in a direction that is reverse compared with nowadays.  As far as I know the Clypse Course was used from 1954, and the last races took place 1959. The first year for 125cc and sidecar only and from 1955 as well for the 250cc races.

There are some names on the map that are in places where the current TT course is. Does someone have some additional info about these places. The names are:
Ballaskelly between Brandish and Hillberry, Ballacottier and Slegaby between Creg-ny-Baa and Brandish.



Already mentioned at the TT course knowledge thread is Gob-ny-Geay with another spelling than on the old map. As well some other info about the Clypse Course.

On the 1:25k map all 3 appear to be farms, Ballaskelly inside the mountain course, other 2 outside

Yes I agree now. I have a quite detailed map that I found this morning and all the three names seems to be farms, a quarter mile or more from the edge of the course.
As I understand too far to be mentioned in the TT course knowledge blog. Objections?

What about my book? Is it a rare one, please?

It certainly looks interesting Silja, but one sold on Ebay recently for 99p! (+ £2.98 postage!)

Thank You again! All information I get about the course is of course always welcome! As a retired it's impossible to save money for a new trip to the island to check out things. Sad. It seems like it will never more be a journey. For the moment I'll keep the memories bright by the work with the knowledge thread. First time was 1970 latest 2010. 8 times all togeather...so far. You never know.

You are right, you would need the permission of Rick Broadbent to 'publish' Milky's comments from there as part of the knowledge. There are two Milky course guide videos. I'd have thought quoting from them would be OK.

I think this is a holiday let out near Laxey on the A2, near the Ballacollister Road Junction

That's the other name for Milntown Cottage I believe
